From the St. Petersburg Times: Activist speaks out against student group By Times staff writers Published October 14, 2005 Christian activist Terry Kemple stood before the School Board on Tuesday, asking board members to take a moral stand against Newsome High School's new Gay-Straight Alliance. Students at Newsome formed the club last month to combat prejudice against gays and lesbians. Similar clubs exist at schools around the country; one has been in place for three years at nearby Brandon High School. Kemple argued that the club will allow students to talk about sex and sexuality, which he said is against the district's policies. Other community members reiterated Kemple's stance. "Where are we today with our children?" said Gary Noonan, who asked board members to use "common sense" to deal with the club. But board members said they have no plans to remove the club. Nor have any administrators complained to them about it, they said. Source: http://www.sptimes.com/2005/10/14/ Brandontimes/Activist_speaks_out_a.shtml
