According to an article published by 365gay.com News, Barbie has come under attack from the radical, religious Right. Robert Knight of Concerned Women for America (who spoke at the UNCG PRIDE! Week debate on marriage equality in April 2004) claims that the Barbie website is confusing children:
A conservative group claims that Mattel's popular doll Barbie is promoting gender confusion among children. Concerned Women for America says that because the company's website for the doll asks children their sex Matell is giving in "to the homosexual agenda". The questionnaire provides 3 boxes: "girl", "boy", "I don't know". "It’s the idea that well, maybe people aren’t born a particular biological sex, or they are but that shouldn’t determine their gender identity," said Bob Knight, the director of CWA's Culture & Family Institute. "And that’s a very big component of the homosexual activist agenda now." "In other words, any kid who’s not sure about who he is, he’s fair game to try to persuade to have same sex acts," said Knight. The Barbie Web site is free and the only area where children are asked to register is in an area called "My Backpack" where kids can sign up to receive birthday greetings. According to Knight the company is trying to confuse children as young as four.
How ridiculous. I don't think any toy or website has the power to "confuse" people or make people gay. In fact, nobody can be made gay or straight; you either are or aren't. Mr. Knight needs to get a life. The only person trying to confuse and change anybody is him: He tried to get me to "see the light" when I spoke to him at the PRIDE! debate last year. Funny how the Right are the real ones going out trying to "change" people and then they go off accusing others of doing it. Technorati Tags: , , , , , ,

He's just jealous that he doesn't get to be in the club.

/me hangs a "no straights allowed" sign on the clubhouse door
Now, now... you know full well we can't do that; that would be discrimination. Not all straight people are bigots. :)

But we can out a "No Robert Knights Allowed" or "No Concerned Women for America Allowed" sign on the door... that would be free association. LOL :)
