According to an story and broadcast (click link to see video) by NBC 17 (Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, NC), North Carolina anti-gays are attacking the new NBC show, "The Book of Daniel", which was created back Jack Kenny (who is gay), a North Carolina native and graduate of Millbrook High School, Raleigh, NC. According to the article:
Dr. Robert O'Keef, the pastor of the North Raleigh United Methodist Church, finds the drama troubling. "That isn't a realistic message," O'Keef said. "I can't imagine any church that would have a family that would be this dysfunctional. The church would say, 'This isn't working.'" The show's lead character occasionally talks with Jesus. One of his sons is gay, his daughter sells drugs and his wife drinks heavily. NBC-17 had received more than 450 e-mails and more than 160 calls about the show through Tuesday, with most asking the station not to air the show. "Please do not air the show, 'The Book of Daniel.' This show is a slap in the face to God almighty and to all conservative Christians everywhere," wrote Betty Dixon, of Pittsboro. "Yes, people have problems, marriages have problems, families have problems. But why can't we have programming that's encouraging?" said John Rustin, of the North Carolina Family Policy Council. NBC released a statement supporting the show and encouraging people to give it a try. "The Book of Daniel is a fictional drama about an Episcopalian priest's family and the contemporary issues with which they must grapple," the statement said. "We're confident that once audiences view this quality drama themselves, they'll appreciate this thought-provoking examination of one American family."
===== I find it very sad that these anti-gay folk are trying to get this show kicked off air-time. What is wrong with them? Are they afraid to see imperfect Christians? I thought that's what being Christian was all about: Being imperfect, yet leaning on the help and strength of God to make you a better person. In my opinion that is what "The Book of Daniel" is going to show people. I urge all fair-minded people everywhere to call and write your NBC stations urging them to carry the show. The anti-gays cannot be allowed to rule over the rest of us. Technorati Tags: , , , , , , , ,
