Gay Activists 'It's Payback Time' For Governor (CBS 5) Members of the gay community plan a major political show of force this weekend. They will fan out across the state, campaigning against the Governor’s initiatives in the special election. Volunteers will hand out a brochure with the headline “It’s Payback Time.” Many in the gay community are still furious at the governor for vetoing gay marriage, which had been passed by both houses of the state legislature in a historic vote. San Francisco Assemblyman Mark Leno authored the gay marriage bill. “I can understand from the community that there’s a lot of anger, just as there is a lot of anger coming from nurses and teachers and firefighters, and police officers,” Leno says. “Of course we're angry.
