From the Macon Telegraph: Baptist, Mercer prepare for family split By Bernie O'Donnell TELEGRAPH STAFF WRITER November 17, 2005 Some were comparing their split to a divorce, but the Tifton pastor who this week urged Georgia's Baptist leaders to sever ties with Mercer University likened the school to a child gone astray. "We want our values to be reflected in the lives of our children," said the Rev. Fred Evers. "Mercer is a child of the Georgia Baptist Convention. Baptist folks supported it." Tuesday, the Georgia Baptist Convention voted to take the first official step toward parting ways with Mercer, a Baptist college since its founding in 1833.
