A theatre in Utah pulled the showing of "Brokeback Mountain" in the past few days. I found this great blog post by KipEspquire of "A Stitch in Haste" from the Spectrum Bloggers Group Blog about the situation:
Hostile to Gay, But Gay Over Hostel

A multiplex theater in a mall in Sandy, Utah, has reportedly engaged in an illegal breach of contract and abruptly canceled its showings of Brokeback Mountain. The theater is owned by Larry Miller, owner of the Utah Jazz and financier of Mormon propaganda movies. Neither Miller nor the theater have issued a statement regarding the cancellation, but another member of the bigot brigades wasted no time praising the decision:

Gayle Ruzicka, president of the conservative Utah Eagle Forum, said not showing the film set an example for the people of Utah. "I just think (pulling the show) tells the young people especially that maybe there is something wrong with this show," she said.
On the other hand, there is, apparently, nothing wrong with the theater's other premier this week -- the vulgar blood-and-guts ultra-violence horror-thriller Hostel. Watch the trailers for both movies (after the kids have left the room) and then ask yourself which one an anal-retentive, wholesome entertainment, "traditional family values" proselytizer ought to prefer not be shown. When they say it's not about naked bigotry, they lie.
===== You tell'em Kip!!! Family Values? Let's see here: love or murder, violence and gore? I think love overcomes violence and gore. Maybe the Mormons need to check their priorities? Technorati Tags: , , , , , , ,

Thanks for your site. I have bookmarked it. Lot's of great information and links. It is obvious you have put a lot of time into the BLOG.

RE: The Mormons and their "family values." Aren't they the folks who used to have several wives? Hmmm, I think there are a couple of Mormon groups that still promote this lifestyle. Interesting huh?

Ciao ... and thanks again, I'll be back.

Thanks for your comment and kind words. I'm really glad you like the site and I'm humbled to know that people are actually reading my writings.

You are right - just like everything else I am involved in, I do put a lot of time into my blog.

Yeah... it is kind of wierd that the Mormans do have this "abominable" thing in their past yet they find the room to religiously condemn others. I think the word "hypocrite" could be used. At least someone could make an argument for it (at least in relation to the Church and its teachings, not necessarily individual members of that particular church).
